AUSY Touch

Since the mid-2000s, AUSY has worked on developing its first touchscreen applications. In 2011, it officially created AUSY Touch, its national centre of expertise and innovation. It is based in Aix-en-Provence, and the centre is specialised in large format, multi-touch touchscreen technology (touchscreens 55 inches and larger).

Why multi-touch and large format touchscreens?

Multi-touch technology makes it possible to combine the action of multiple fingers or to create gestures for causing interactions (rotation, zoom, etc.). Several users can thus simultaneously work on an application in either a collaborative or independent fashion thanks to the use of adapted supports (touchscreens with 10-100 contact points). Large format touchscreens can increase display surface and data visualization. This also offers a sub-dashboard, which can result in increasing decision-making and permits horizontal and vertical collaborative work (up to 6 people on a 55-inch and 8-10 people on a 70-inch or larger).

In order to respond to its internal challenges, AUSY has developed, and now uses in its project and activity management, the two following solutions:

Dataviz: a collaborative solution that lets you respond to the current problem of analysing massive volumes of data. It is part of our Big Data offer. Data visualisation allows for an exploration of complex data through images, rendering it more readably, intuitively, and more quickly than other classic Business Intelligence tools. More specifically, it makes it possible to:

  • create real dialogue and strong interaction with data;
  • animate data and better understand how they work;
  • work on spatial, temporal and geographic dimensions all at once;
  • work on the same group of data with different representations, opening a door to different perspectives and a better understanding of what happens;
  • improve the user’s capacity for action thanks to the execution of simulations and their results.

This solution has been implemented with many of our clients.

GeoViz: A visualisation and consultation tool existing on a map of multimedia data and geo-localised resources. These resources come from a business data information system. More specifically, it makes it possible to:

  • navigate an information system of geo-localised data in 2d and 3d;
  • browse data and base maps in an intuitive and interactive way;
  • simplify and improve finding and getting information (e.g. directions).

It was developed by AUSY Touch, our engineering and innovation centre, in 2011 based on work conducted in the field of engineering touchscreen applications and emerging tools in GIS (Geographic Information System). 

TeamViz: a collaborative, multi-site, multi-device (chart, table, tablet, iOS, Android and Windows smartphones) and multi-project solution. Collaborative workspaces are made up of a horizontal work surface (table) and a vertical work surface (chart). Both work surfaces are tactile, multi-touch and interactive. The workspaces are combined with a software suite in order to optimize creativity, resolve problems in teams and facilitate preliminary designs. This solution allows for agile, digitalised work sessions on multiple sites far away from each other while using multiple market methods (Scrum, Kanban, ScrumBan, Speed Boat).

During creative workshops and brainstorm sessions, data are ordinarily re-transcribed on paper. This can lead to losing information and valuable time. Today, TeamViz enables users and members of the same community to keep record of, capitalise on and thus reuse all known intermediary data. This enables better management of produced material on discontinued activities. Synthesis and reporting processes, as well as other operations, are automated.

Collaborative work increases individual and group performance:

  • From a quantitative perspective, it has been observed that 30% less time has been needed for resolving a planning problem. This was accompanied with an increase of 5% on precision.
  • It has been shown that the digital format has a great interest in capitalising on and reusing data.
  • From a qualitative perspective, use of the digital device increases user motivation and improves their coordination.
  • More balanced distribution of discussion was observed in the brainstorming phase, thus improving creativity.
  • Work around a tactile table is perceived to be more enjoyable and fun.
